Individual Counseling

One on One Therapy That Transforms Recovery

Introduction to Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is the foundation of true healing at Tri America Recovery. It is where your story is heard and your plan begins. Unlike group sessions where support is shared, individual therapy is your personal space to explore what matters most. This is where real breakthroughs happen.

In every session, you work directly with a licensed clinician who is focused only on you. You will develop a deeper understanding of your patterns, emotions, beliefs, and past experiences while learning new tools to manage your present and build your future.

Individual therapy is not just part of your care. It is the anchor of everything we do.

A Core Component of Our IOP Program

Individual therapy is included as a central part of our Intensive Outpatient Program. While IOP includes a variety of clinical elements, it is your one on one sessions that guide and personalize your overall treatment plan.

Your individual therapist helps shape your weekly goals, adjust your care as you grow, and ensure that your group therapy and psychiatric support are always aligned with your needs. Every client in IOP receives a minimum number of individual therapy sessions, with additional sessions available based on clinical necessity.

This structure allows us to meet you exactly where you are and evolve your care in real time.

Integrating with Medication Assisted Treatment

For clients receiving Medication Assisted Treatment, individual therapy is especially essential. Medications such as Suboxone or Vivitrol help reduce cravings and stabilize brain chemistry, but they do not address the underlying emotional and psychological factors that drive substance use.

Individual therapy bridges that gap. It gives you a safe space to understand the triggers, traumas, and thought patterns that fuel addictive behavior. It also helps prepare you emotionally for medication transitions and supports long term commitment to your recovery goals.

At Tri America Recovery, MAT and therapy are fully integrated. They do not compete. They complement one another.

How Individual Therapy Enhances Psychiatric Care

If you are also receiving psychiatric support, individual therapy helps make that care more effective. Your therapist and psychiatrist collaborate closely to ensure your treatment is clinically cohesive and emotionally grounded.

This collaboration allows your therapy sessions to support medication adjustments and gives your psychiatrist insight into your progress, symptoms, and challenges outside of brief med checks. Together, they create a clear path for growth that addresses both emotional and biological healing.

This is whole person treatment at its best.

What Happens in a Session

Every individual therapy session is a confidential, one on one meeting between you and your assigned clinician. Sessions typically last 50 minutes and are held in person or via telehealth, depending on your needs and schedule.

During these sessions, you may explore issues related to substance use, mental health symptoms, trauma history, relationships, self esteem, boundaries, and goal setting. Your therapist will guide the conversation but always make space for what is most important to you.

You will learn how to manage your emotions, shift your thinking, and build tools for long term change.

Approaches We Use

Our clinical team draws from a wide range of evidence based modalities including:

Each plan is personalized. We do not believe in one approach for everyone. Instead, we craft your sessions based on what works best for you and adjust them as you grow.

Why Individual Therapy Can Help

Individual therapy can help because it is personal. It gives you the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and gain clarity about your life in a way that feels safe and supported.

At Tri America Recovery, our therapists are not just credentialed professionals. They are warm, compassionate guides who walk with you through the most difficult and powerful moments of your recovery. You will never feel rushed, judged, or alone.

If you are ready to take control of your healing and invest in real change, individual therapy is the place to begin.
