Group Counseling

Why Group Therapy Matters

Group therapy is one of the most powerful tools in recovery. At Tri America Recovery, we believe that healing happens in the community. When you are surrounded by others who understand your challenges, speak your language, and walk a similar path, something shifts. Shame begins to lose its grip. Isolation starts to fade.

Our group therapy sessions are more than discussions. They are transformative spaces of honesty, vulnerability, and shared learning. Led by experienced clinicians, every group is structured, supportive, and deeply therapeutic.

You are not alone. Group therapy proves it.

Group Therapy in Our IOP Program

Group therapy is a central pillar of our Intensive Outpatient Program. Clients participate in several structured groups each week as part of their core treatment schedule. These sessions address a range of topics, including relapse prevention, emotional regulation, coping skills, trauma recovery, and communication strategies.

What makes our groups different is that they are never generic. Each group is tailored to the current needs of the clients attending. Your therapist will coordinate with the clinical team to ensure the group experience reflects your personal goals and challenges.

Group therapy helps reinforce your individual progress while building peer accountability and connection that supports long term success.

How Group Therapy Complements Individual Care

Group and individual therapy are designed to work together. What you process privately with your therapist is strengthened when you explore similar themes in a group.

The group setting allows you to practice the insights, boundaries, and skills you are developing one on one. It helps you build confidence, identify triggers in real time, and give and receive feedback from others who are growing alongside you.

Together, these services create a well rounded experience that addresses your internal work and your real world interactions.

The Clinical Framework

Every group at Tri America Recovery is facilitated by a licensed clinician and follows a clear therapeutic framework. We offer psychoeducational groups, process groups, trauma recovery groups, relapse prevention groups, and experiential groups.

You will learn to understand the impact of your thoughts and behaviors, identify patterns that no longer serve you, and replace them with healthier, more sustainable strategies. You will also explore relationships, attachment, emotions, and decision making in a safe and encouraging environment.

We believe that groups should be structured and intentional but never rigid. You will always be guided, but never forced to speak before you are ready.

What to Expect in a Session

A typical group session lasts 60 to 90 minutes and includes five to ten participants. Intensive Outpatient groups are 3 hours per day. Groups may be held in person or virtually depending on your treatment plan and availability.
Each group begins with a short check in and ends with a reflection or takeaway. In between, your facilitator will guide discussion, skill building, and emotional processing based on the group’s theme.

You are encouraged to share at your own pace. You are never judged or compared. What happens in group, stays in group. Confidentiality is respected.

This is a space for healing, not performance.

Why Group Therapy Works

There is something uniquely powerful about being heard by others who truly understand. When you sit in a circle with people who know what it feels like to struggle and still show up, something inside you shifts.

At Tri America Recovery, our group sessions are rooted in trust, structure, and skilled facilitation. You will not just sit in a room and talk. You will grow.

If you are ready to feel seen, supported, and challenged in the best way possible, group therapy is waiting for you.
